{"id":395,"date":"2012-01-26T19:33:43","date_gmt":"2012-01-27T00:33:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.somethingkindofwonderful.com\/blog\/?p=395"},"modified":"2017-01-02T01:04:43","modified_gmt":"2017-01-02T06:04:43","slug":"waikiki-sign-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.somethingkindofwonderful.com\/blog\/2012\/01\/26\/waikiki-sign-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Waikiki Sign"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My fascination with Hawaii&#8217;s dependency on tourism began when I was 15 years old working in a t-shirt shop on Kalakaua Avenue.\u00a0 My time perpetuating the &#8220;aloha spirit&#8221; to visitors selling over prices t-shirts has influence my work for the past decade.\u00a0 As part of this body of work, I&#8217;m beginning to work on a new series of videos and computer art work that center around Waikiki.<\/p>\n<p>The working title of one of the videos is called &#8220;Waikiki Sign.&#8221;\u00a0 The looping video will show a computer generated 3D sign that reads &#8220;Waikiki&#8221; erected on the crest of Diamond Head.\u00a0 The Waikiki sign will be an imitation of the famous Hollywod sign.\u00a0 As with it&#8217;s famous counter part, the Waikiki sign embodies ideas of paradise that people seek and dream about.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a concept painting of how the video will look. \u00a0I conceived of this video as a a real life-size replica installed on Diamond Head. \u00a0The video acts as one-part visualization and one-part placeholder. \u00a0(JG 1\/2012)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-396\" title=\"Waikiki_Sign_JenGoya_2012\" src=\"http:\/\/www.somethingkindofwonderful.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Waikiki_Sign.jpg\" alt=\"Waikiki_Sign\" width=\"385\" height=\"289\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Update: Here is a screenshot of the initial video render.
